A group of Nissan's engineers have revealed their pet project: a tuned 'Saturday Special' version of the popular Nissan 350Z sport coupe. Although the car sports significant increase in power output and substantial chassis modifications, it still remains quite a comfortable daily work horse that you can use to bring yourself from home to office and back, Leftlane News reports.

BMW has officially announced its redesigned BMW X3 SUV of the 2007 model year. Scheduled to go on sale this fall, the top version of the car will feature a 3.0-liter diesel engine, BMW's most powerful drivetrain derived from a much heavier BMW 535d. The twin-turbo engine produces 286 hp and 580 Nm of torque and lets the new X3 accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 6.6 seconds, making it more sport than utility vehicle. Its maximum speed tops 240 km/h (149 mph)

Renault plans to offer a diesel version of its Megane RenaultSport in March 2007. The car may be equipped with a 2.0-liter diesel engine with a maximum power output of 180 hp, a top speed of 225 km/h, and acceleration from zero to 100 km/h of about 7.5 seconds.

Mitsubishi plans to offer a new tuning package for the 2006 Lancer sedan. The Lancer SE will set you back for $16,099 and for this price you'll get 15-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles and color-keyed mirrors. That's not all, of course, as there will also be power glass sunroof, six-speaker stereo system and Alcantara seating surfaces. Land Rover plans to unveil the redesigned Freelander (oh, sorry, it's the LR2 now) at the upcoming British Motor Show in London. Guys at Land Rover seem to be good learners. Gracefully admitting their initial failure to offer American customers a decent entry-level premium SUV they managed to create a brand new model that does look more appealing to an American eye.

The new Chrysler Sebring will be officially premiered at the London Motor Show on 18 July, but Chrysler's PR department has already started pouring in some info about the car. Among the latest news is Sebring's first official photo. It's clearly visible that the car is stylistically close to its 300C and Crossfire sister cars and it definitely looks more appealing than the current model.

Channel4 says that British Ultima Sports Ltd. has ruined its own world record for the acceleration-braking sequence. It took their street-legal Ultima GTR sports vehicle only 9.4 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100mph and then brake to zero again.

Citing DaimlerChrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche, Reuters reports that DaimlerChrysler corporation apparently considers building its Smart minicar in the United States. Talking to the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Zetsche said that "the tendency [to grow Smarts on American soil] is clearly positive".
