In the time of looming gas prices and blah-blah-blah, consumers turn away from big SUVs and to smaller cars to zip around town. The same do most car makers, especially here in Europe where 95-grade unleaded gasoline sells close to $9 per gallon. No wonder that Peugeot keeps introducing special editions of its smallest cars. The new Peugeot 107 Street Racing edition is just another example of this policy.

The 2009 Nissan Maxima family sedan will start at a price of $29,290 for the Maxima 3.5 S base model. Two years ago, the 2007 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE was available at a mere $28,050. The Maxima 3.5 SV with a sports package will be even more expensive starting at $31,990.

It looks like the year 2010 will indeed be groundbreaking for the automotive industry as major players -Volkswagen, Chevrolet and BMW among them- are going to introduce their first mass-market electric-powered vehicles. Looks like Volkswagen will finally start selling its fuel-efficient diesel-powered VW Jetta TDI sedan and VW Jetta TDI SportWagen station wagon in the North American market. Although almost $3000 more expensive than the gasoline powered model, the Jetta TDI will be a better choice for those who travel tens of thousands of miles per year.

Citing growing inflation and weaker dollar, Porsche's decided to increase prices on its 2009 MY Cayenne family of SUVs. Although the very basic 2009 year model will be about 2 per cent more expensive than the 2008 Cayenne, with annual inflation rate between 3.5 and 4 per cent its starting price of $45,495 will be $300 to $350 lower in real dollars. Okay, never mind.
