McLaren Mercedes preps a drop-top SLR supercar
One of the fastest street-legal cars on Earth will soon get a younger brother. McLaren and Mercedes-Benz have reportedly completed R&D on their new McLaren Mercedes SLR convertible. The car may be officially presented to the public within the next six months.

Auto Express is reporting that the new SLR drop-top will be based on the well-known 1999 Vision SLR concept and will be motivated by the same V8 engine installed on the current SLR coupe, featuring 626 hp of maximum power achieved at 6500 rpm and impressive 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of peak torque available at 3250 through 5000 rpm.

Body of the SLR convertible will be built using the same composite materials, so do expect the same rigidity and strength as well as the same mind-numbing performance. And price. The car will cost you not less than $660,000, so you'd better start saving money right now.
