Brabus takes on Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV

Brabus has presented its new tuning program for the Mercedes-Benz's GL-Class luxury SUV. The program covers all current GL models, including the GL 320 CDI with a diesel engine.







As usual, Brabus makes its point on engine modifications. For example, the aforementioned GL 320 CDI receives the Brabus D6 (III) PowerXtra performance kit, which pumps up the engine's power output form modest 224 hp to much more impressive 272 horsepower with peak torque increased to 435 lb-ft (590 Nm) @ 1,600 rpm.

No wonder, that the heavy vehicle now jumps from zero to 62 mph in just 8.9 seconds (9.5 seconds for a standard car) and reaches a maximum speed of 218 km/h (210 km/h before upgrade). The engine still remains within the Euro IV emission limits.

The Mercedes-Benz GL 500 may be subjected to even more impressive upgrade with maximum power increased from 419 hp to 462 hp. It takes the tuned GL 500 6.0 seconds only to reach 62 mph from a standstill. The Brabus 6.1-displacement engine kit also features a peak torque of 454 lb-ft (615 Nm) reached at 3,100 rpm.

Of course, there is also a decent set of more aggressive exterior modifications, as well as three different designs of Brabus Monoblock wheels available in sizes from 18 to 22 inches.
