VW forced to prematurely unveil Iroc/Scirocco Concept hatchback
Volkswagen has decided to unveil its new Iroc Concept after a couple of photos of the conceptual hatchback leaked into the Net. The photos make a good hint on how the upcoming Scirocco hot hatchback will look like when it is unveiled in 2008.
Although the Iroc/Scirocco is set to officially debut only in the second half of September during the motor show in Paris, the show will be rather spoiled since the hi-res images of the concept have already flooded the Internet.
Outside, the Iroc/Scirocco will feature something resembling the current corporate grill, shared with some variations between the VW and Audi. The vehicle will be rather compact, being only 166,9 inches long, 70.8 inches wide and 55.1 inches high, which is close to the current Golf hatchback. So, the upcoming Scirocco will probably share the PQ35 platform with VW's best seller.
The car will be equipped with the DSG gearbox, which will be mated with the 1.4-liter supercharged four-banger capable of producing a maximum of 210 hp. With a planned curb weight of less than 1,360 kilograms, the Iroc/Scirocco will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 7.0 seconds, achieving a top speed of some 150 mph.
