Next-gen Porsche Cayenne revealed

The 2nd generation Porsche Cayenne will be slimmer and more powerful than the current model. Cayenne's new family of Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) engines will also feature much better mileage, which in some cases may reach 15 per cent over the older motors.

Porsche expects that the new trio will reach company's showrooms by February 24, 2007.

The new Cayenne will start at mere €43,300 and for the money you'll get a SUV with a six-cylinder engine, capable of producing 290 bhp and 385 Nm of peak torque. Which is respectively 40 bhp and 75 Nm better than the previous model could provide. The engine grew larger, too -- its displacement has increased from 3.2 to 3.6 liters. As a result, the vehicle now accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 8.1 and reaches a top speed of 141 mph (227 km/h).

More powerful, and more expensive, Cayenne S will also be available with a new engine, not only bigger but technically more advanced. Featuring new direct gasoline injection system and VarioCam Plus valve control, the 4.8-liter beast produces 385 bhp of power and 500 Nm of torque. No wonder that the vehicle can jump from zero to 62 mph in just 6.6 seconds (0.2 seconds faster than before) and reach a top speed of 171 mph (275 km/h). The SUV is priced at €55,800.

The top of the range Porsche Cayenne Turbo will be available with a twinturbocharged eight-cylinder engine, producing 500 bhp and 700 Nm. With all this power, the Cayenne Turbo catapults to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds and reaches a maximum of 171 mph (275 km/h), which is probably limited by electronics. The vehicle will cost you hefty €91,100.
