Hyundai Grandeur / Azera receives a diesel engine
European buyers are now able to get their Hyundai Grandeur (aka Hyundai Azera in the States) with a diesel power plant. The heavy-weight flagship model with an oil-burner will hopefully provide much better fuel economy, which is a real benefit in Europe where a gallon of premium gasoline costs from $6 to $7.
The engine in question seems to be exactly the same powerplant, which is currently supplied with diesel 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV.
Mated to an automatic gearbox, the 2.2-liter CRDi engine provides superb elasticity, even though it only features 155 hp and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) of torque available in the range of 1800 - 2500 rpm.
Fuel consumption is reported to average on 33 mpg on a combined cycle and CO2 emissions are about 208 g/km.
In Germany, the diesel-powered Hyundai Grandeur starts at a price of €41,000.
