New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Is All About Safety
Tomorrow Mercedes-Benz will officially present its redesigned E-Class luxury sedan and station wagon. Being touted as 'next generation' and 'pioneering', the new E-Class is rather face-lifted version of the older model. What is really new, is that the German company did its best to get rid of the long chain of quality problems that substantially eroded its brand and client base during the last couple of years. Now Mercedes hopes that the new E-Class will be able to win back customers who defected to their rivals from BMW and Audi.
The new Mercedes E-Class will be available in Europe and in the U.S. in June. Customers will be able to choose from 29 different trims -- 16 sedans and 13 station wagons. Mercedes promises that all of them will be the safest cars in their price range featuring safety technologies that come directly from the extremely expensive S-Class line-up.
E-Class and S-Class will share not only some safety equipment such as anticipatory PRE-SAFE system, NECK-PRO headrests, adaptive brake system and blinking brake lights. The newly developed 5.5-litre V8, which develops 388 horsepower with torque 391 lb ft, also comes from the S-Class. The most powerful E500 sedan equipped with this engine features stunning acceleration, getting from zero to 62mph in just 5.3 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than the previous E500.
It is expected that the base price for the new Mercedes E200 CDI model featuring 136bhp and 37.3mpg will be set as low as $44,160.
