Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life lands between classes
Volkswagen has finally created a vehicle capable of sitting on two stools at a time. The 2008 VW Caddy Maxi Life seems to successfully blend high payload capacity of a cargo van with the versatility of an MPV. And it looks cute, too.
Just like the 1998 Lexus RX / Toyota Harrier has created a new class of car-based crossover SUVs, the new Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life may well become the first representative of a class of vehicles, sitting between the compact shuttle cars and small transporters.
With its 4,875 mm of overall length, the car is 470 mm longer than the base VW Caddy providing up to 4,200 liters of stowage volume compared to original Caddy's 3,200 liters of cargo space. The maximum payload has been increased to 800 kg, and the car can tow up to 1,500 kg.
With all seats installed, the Caddy Maxi may transport up to seven people with bearable comfort of a German Golf-class car.
The Maxi comes equipped with a choice of three engines. It may be ordered with an older 1.9-liter 103 hp TDI engine, a 2.0-liter 140 hp TDI, and an engine working on gas.
