Seat Altea Freetrack 2.0 TDI: family welcomes a cheaper member
Seat will soon add a cheaper trim to its popular Altea Freetrack model range. Equipped with a decent 2.0 140hp TDI diesel engine, the new entry-level model will feature a fuel economy of only 6.5 liters per 100 km (about 36.2 mpg), zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 10.2 and a maximum speed of 193 km/h (120 mph).
The cheaper Seat Altea Freetrack 2.0 TDI will be delivered in either 4WD or front-wheel-drive trims. The four-wheel-drive model will feature a Haldex-type clutch so that in normal driving conditions the gearbox will transfer all of the available torque to the front drives. When the situation demands, the torque may be equally shared between the front and rear axles in up to 50/50 proportion. This solution significantly reduces car's fuel consumption, although sometimes it may well lead to an accident if the rear axle gets too much power an inexperienced driver can't cope with.
The Seat Altea Freetrack 2.0 TDI will go on sale this summer. No info on pricing and international availability yet.
