The Korean-built
2008 Spirra S supercar has been introduced to general public at the motor show in Beijing. Developed by a local company Protomotors, the car will be brought to market by Protomors' new owner -- Oulim Motors.
Posted by: nektotigra on 28/04/08 It took Protomotors about ten years to develop the first Korean supercar. Although, the vehicle's body clearly resembles Ferrari's style, the rest of the car is totally Korean. Even its 391 hp, 355 Nm 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine is supercharged version of
Hyundai's DOHC 24-valve powerplant. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the engine takes only 4.6 seconds to accelerate the
Spirra S from zero to 60mph.
Version, equipped with more powerful Bi Turbo 591 hp 544 Nm engine and a sequential shift gearbox, will do even better than that slashing the acceleration time by 1.4 seconds to 3.2 seconds! The vehicle's top speed is rated at formidable 190 mph (305 km/h).
The car's carbon fiber body is built around a race-style space frame chassis with double wishbones and coil-over shocks at each corner. It sports a set of five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with front tires are 235/40ZR18, while the rears are 275/40ZR18.
During the first year of production, Oulim Motors plans to build about a hundred
Spirra S supercars. Later on, the volume will be increased to 300 cars a year. Not to much by Korean standards but all vehicles will be hand built, that's why their price is totally European -- a
Spirra S will cost you around $100,000 if you get lucky to buy one.
