'Entry-Level' Porsche Cayman to Be Available This Summer
Despite all official denials, Porsche secretly prepared for launch its cheapest sports coupe to date. Starting July 29, the German automaker will ship the new Porsche Cayman, a smaller and not so powerful sibling of the latest Porsche Cayman S. You probably won't believe it, but the new Cayman costs just $50,000.
In its press release Porsche promises the smaller Cayman to feature a 2.7-liter, 245 horsepower flat-six Boxer engine that produces impressive 201 pound-feet of torque in a range of 4,600 - 6,000 rpm. Although not as powerful as S's 3.4-liter, 295hp beast, this motor is good enough to provide the Cayman with acceleration pf about 6.1 second from zero to 62mph.
The basic trim comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, which can also be replaced with more interesting Tiptronic five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual which can be paired with The Porsche Active Suspension Management system. The latter automatically adapts the shock-absorber system to the particular driving situation and lets the driver to manually select whether running in 'Normal' or 'Sport' mode.
The new Porsche Cayman will be equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 front tires on 6.5-inch wide rims and 235/50-17 rear tires on 8-inch-wide rims.
