Dodge Challenger drag race package features a 6.1-liter HEMI
Chrysler's autoparts supplying arm Mopar revealed first official detail on the recently announced drag race package for the Dodge Challenger muscle car. Featuring a choice of 6.1-liter or 5.7-liter HEMI or 5.9-liter Magnum Wedge engines, the package may come with either automatic or a manual transmission.

Just as we reported in May, the "packaged" Challenger (in its demonstration, Mopar revealed a pair of Dodge Challenger SRT8's) undergoes an extensive weight loss program. The car, for example, looses its sound-proof, body sealer and undercoat, as well as windshield wiper assembly, complete HVAC system, all airbag components, rear seats, power steering system, exhaust system and underbody heat shields, cross-car and side impact door beams, rear bumper beam and rear deck lid spoiler. So, I'm afraid, you either won't be able to run the car on the streets at all, or will finally become a popular person among local cops.

Other weight reduction steps include adding composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, Viper-style front bucket seats, polycarbonate door windows, lightweight cooling module with electric fan, manual rack and pinion steering, special cable-operated deck lid release, special lightweight front brake assembly and special cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.

A Dodge Challenger with the drag race tuning package installed will cost you about $30,000 to $35,000. Unfortunately, Mopar still stays mum about the upgraded vehicle's performance.
