AMG 6.2L V8 engine to power the Aston Martin Vantage?
Aston Martin, which is in the process of searching for new technology partners, is seriously considering outsourcing new engines -or even entire platforms, for that matters- from the Mercedes-Benz luxury carmaker. The British and the German companies are reportedly working on new engines, transmissions and hybrid powertrains.
CAR magazine says that the so called Project Alligator may soon bring new Aston Martin with a hybrid powertrain and even a diesel engine that could power some British cars.
There are also rumors that the Vantage model will soon drop the Ford's V8 motor in favor of AMG's 6.2-liter M156 monster currently powering the Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series supercars, and that the Aston Martin will even get new eight-speed automatic transmission from the German company.
CAR's sources also say that Aston Martin may even help Merc's struggling luxury brand Maybach to create new flagship models. More on that is September.
