Toyota Tundra gets a supercharger from TRD
Toyota's performance parts supplier TRD starts selling supercharger kits for the Toyota Tundra truck and the Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV, the latter based on the former. The new supercharger, actually revealed back in June, increases the standard V8 engine's maximum power and torque from 381hp / 401 lb-ft to more appealing 504hp and 550 lb-ft.

The TRD's kit is built around Eaton's Twin Vortices Series 7psi supercharger with twin four-lobe rotors. The same solution was also employed on the Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 and the 2008 Cadillac CTS-V. CAPA claims Eaton's superchargers use a bypass system used for unloading supercharger during idle and light load, resulting in better fuel economy and quiet operation. In fact, with a supercharger installed, your given Toyota Tundra or Sequoia may feature the same mpg numbers in highway driving while loosing only one mile per gallon in the city cycle.

The system, if installed by Toyota's dealer, is covered with either a full year of unlimited-mileage coverage for the unit or including it in the remainder of any existing new-truck warranty.

Toyota plans to charge a price of $5,875 for the kit. It would be nice to have a similar supercharger kit for the Toyota HiLux truck.
