Maybach 51: A Smaller, Gentler Kind of Maybach
Notwithstanding poor sales of expensive but somewhat dull Maybach 57 and 62, German carmaker reportedly plans to introduce yet another, although smaller, model.
Autoblog citing Auto Motor und Sport says that the new 5.1 meters long Maybach 51 will be released between years 2009 and 2010. The company said to be planning to make the car not only smaller, but also cheaper, putting the price tag below the $250,000 and aiming the new Maybach against Bentley Continental Flying Spur and smaller Rolls-Royce, which is still in development.
The Maybach 51 will be presumably designed on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class platform and may come with a choice of V8 and V12 engines. Both sedan and coupe are expected.
