Koenigsegg joins the four-door craze
Koenigsegg, the Swedish exotic car manufacturer, is reportedly planning to jump into the four-door-supercar bandwagon, joining the likes of Aston Martin Rapide, 2009 Maserati Quattroporte and the Porsche Panamera grand tourer. Set to be unveiled as a prototype model at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the, err, family supercar will feature a 700hp V8 engine and lots of carbon fiber.
CAR Middle East says that Koenigsegg's engineers are working on the four-door model for the last two years, yet the supercar is still in its clay model phase. It's not quite clear whether the Swedish company will manage to find external investors -probably, from one of the oil-rich Middle East country- to actually make the car.
The magazine also says that the car will be 'built entirely out of carbon fiber', therefore weighing considerably less than any other performance four-door on the market and, being motivated by a 700hp engine, will have a pretty much astonishing top speed of 350km/h. Of course, it will NOT share its platform with the existing Koenigsegg CCX/CCXR, but will have some family resemblance to the famous GT.
At this time, Koenigsegg promises to make the four-door 'slightly cheaper' than the CCX and hopes to sell 70-80 cars a year with 50 percent of that lot going to the United States and the rest of them to the Middle East and Asia.
