Elfin Type 5 Clubman: a street-legal car for track enthusiasts
Being a follow-on from the outgoing Type-3 Clubman kit car, the new Elfin Type 5 Clubman features a tubular chassis fitted with a composite body sporting much more elegant and modern design that definitely stands out from the Caterham-look-alikes crowd.
The Elfin Type 5 Clubman is equipped with a four-cylinder 260hp, 351Nm turbocharged 2.0-liter engine outsourced from the Pontiac Solstice GXP and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Although being more powerful than, say, Caterham Superlight R400 the car is also 175kg heavier, so its acceleration time and top speed will probably be significantly less impressive.
However the Australian company promises that its new car, with its standard traction control, power steering, anti-lock brakes, will feature an improved handling and "electrifying performance" available at a meager price of AU$60,000.
