2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class officially unveiled
The brand new 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class will come to show-rooms this fall. Just like with the fresh E-Class the German carmaker stresses not only its luxurious sides, but first of all its safety features, such as Active Body Control (ABC) suspension system, Intelligent Light System, and PRE-SAFE anticipatory occupant protection system. All of them come as standard.

The new CL-Class has grown fatter, longer and higher. The new coupe measures 5065 mm long, 1871 mm wide and 1418 mm high, making the body 75 mm longer, 14 mm wider and 20 mm higher than before.

The car in not only the largest and the safest, it also features a choice of the most power Mercedes-Benz engines to date. The eight-cylinder engine produces 388 horsepower and gives a maximum torque of 530 Nm @ 2800 rpm, which makes it 26% and 15% respectively more powerful than the current Mercedes' V8. The engine is powerful enough to accelerate the CL 500 from zero to 62 mph in just 5.34 seconds, making it 0.9 seconds faster than the outgoing model.

The top-of-the-line CL 600 will be equipped with a biturbo V12, which output has been increased from 500 hp to 517 hp, and the maximum torque has been improved from 800 Nm to 830 Nm at 3500 rpm. This coupe accelerates from zero to 62 mph in mind blowing 4.6 seconds. What's interesting, is that the newer engine, although being significantly more powerful, is at the same time more fuel efficient, featuring 0.6 mpg more than the current model.
