2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG to debut in Geneva

The 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG performance four-door coupe will be officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2006, which will take place in Switzerland this March.

Among other models, the German company is expected to present its supercharged R-Class touring wagon (some call it a crossover van) that features a powerful 6.3-liter V8 engine.

But, perhaps, the most anticipated showpiece of the trade fair is the pair of CLS and CLK luxury cars tuned up in its Mercedes-AMG facility.

Both 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG and the CLK 63 AMG are equipped with almost the same 6.3-litre V8 engine, which, however, is tuned in such a way as to produce different power and torque depending on model.

The larger and heavier CLS 63 AMG’s engine is rated at 514 hp and is mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The combination of the bump in power and a reprogrammed gearbox is enough to give it impressive 4.5 seconds 0 – 62mph (100 km/h) time and an electronically restricted 155mph (250 km/h) top speed.

The company says that the car also sports the new AMG sports suspension based on the semiactive air suspension system AIRMATIC DC, incorporating the ADS II Adaptive Damping System.

According to the German manufacturer, ADS II continually monitors each spring-strut and, every time a wheel hits a bump or a pothole, makes the ride more comfortable by automatically choosing one of four damping profiles.

The way the system reacts to these changes may be further optimized to your style with one of four driver-selectable Comfort, Sport 1, and Sport 2 modes.

The less powerful, more “civilian-oriented” 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Coupe and Cabriolet will give motorists quite a different driving experience.

They are too equipped with a 6.3-liter V8 power plant and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission, but this time the engines are a little bit suppressed in order to produce ‘mere’ 481 hp of power and 630 Newton meters of torque.

Both cars sport new 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels and high-performance front wheels composite brake system.

As usual, the AMG-tuned Mercedes-Benz somewhat compensates harsher ride style with an even more luxurious interior that features lots of high-grade leather, Alcantara and precious wood.
