The French car manufacturer Renault plans to release a special edition of its Kangoo commercial vehicle. Called 2006 Renault Kangoo Wallace & Gromit Limited Edition, the new version of the car was created for families with kids who don’t want to get a mid-size SUV and still not ready to buy a minivan. Sporting faces of the popular animation characters, the cars will be offered via your local McDonald’s restaurant with every Happy Meal package (well, just kidding.)
Highly popular among European postal services and South American small business owners (the vehicle is sold in Latin America both as a Renault Cangoo and as a Nissan Kubistar,) the car nevertheless is not so successful when it comes to normal motorists who consider the car a little bit too commercial to serve as a family van.
Although the vehicle offers a spacious interior and lots of big and small places where you can stuff a bottle of water or a pack of diapers, it still looks very boring and, um, basic: the last thing that young couples look in a car.
The 2006 Renault Kangoo Wallace & Gromit Limited Edition will have to correct this pitiful situation. Although the car still doesn’t look particularly inspiring with its grey plastic and synthetic (but hopefully easy to clean) cloth upholstery with eye-watering accent piping, there are now even more standard comfort features that will probably make you daily commute a bit more bearable.
Another reason for an update is that the model nears the end of its life cycle and will soon (maybe next year or so) be replaced with a next generation vehicle.
The new car will feature two characters from the Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit animated film although the only thing that reminds about these creatures is an applique on the rear door right above the car’s logo.
The French car maker hopes that the special edition version of the minivan will appeal to both kids and their parents alike.
The former will love lots of cargo space and the latter will probably appreciate a rear-seat entertainment system that, while not as cool as those that come with luxury SUVs, will let them watch a movie or two or even play a game on a console of their choice: luckily, there is just enough of power outlets throughout the car to power the PlayStation.
And even if the grown-ups won’t get that excited about the Kangoo, children have their ways of getting what they want, right?
Although the Renault Kangoo Wallace & Gromit Limited Edition will be available only on the European market, it may be interesting to know that the French car will come with a set of premium features that your kids would love, including a portable Takara DVD player, exclusive upholstery and decor etc.
The list of equipment also includes 2x15W radio-CD with built-in display, an air conditioner with manual controls and a 12V power socket at the rear.
The price for this nice piece of gadgetry will vary from $26,820 to $30,043. They’ve got to be joking.
