Loremo LS ultra-efficient car
German start-up Loremo AG presented its super-efficient Loremo LS coupe that costs only 11,000 Euro and features a mind-blowing 157 mpg mileage.
That’s 1.5l per 100km. So, the car is about two times cheaper and three times more fuel-efficient than the Toyota Prius hybrid setting you back $26,000 and running only 55 miles on one gallon of gasoline.
The secret is quite simple.
The new Loremo LS, which is scheduled for production in 2009, weighs only 450 kilograms (that’s about 990 pounds) and is powered by a tiny 20hp 2-cylinder turbodiesel powerplant, which is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The diesel engine is powerful enough to provide the car with 160 km/h top speed and it takes about 20 second to accelerate Loremo LS from zero to 100 km/h.
Too slow for you? Well, the first of all, it is still almost twice as faster as the old Volkswagen Beetle (aka the Bug) can accomplish.
And, secondly, Loremo AG plans to make a sister car, Loremo GT, which will possibly satisfy your eco-conscious need for speed.
It is promised by the German start-up that the more powerful version will be equipped with a 50hp 3-cylinder turbodiesel, so it will be able to reach top speed of 220 km/h and to go from 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds.
The GT consumes only 2.7 liters per 100 km and will probably cost less than 15,000 Euro.
Both cars will have airbags, particle filter, and radio as standard equipment. Dashboard computer, air conditioning system, MP3 player and navigation system will come as options.
Now, all we have to do is to sit and pray that the German engineers will find a cat fat enough to get the business going.
