The 2007 Renault Megane Renaultsport super-hot compact hatchback, which is set to be officially launched in September at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, will be about 11 per cent more powerful than the current top of the line Megane.
The French automaker plans to supply the 2007 Renault Megane sports hatchback with about 25 more horsepower compared to the current version of the car.
The costly heart transplantation surgery is planned in order to give it some additional advantage against another hot hatchback — the sporty new 197 bhp 2007 Clio Renaultsport Mk III, that went on sale earlier this week.
It seems that the smaller bullet on wheels actually cannibalizes sales of the bigger model.
Technical specifications are not yet available, but Renault promises to present something extraordinary and very exciting.
Update: Okay, we now have some additional data on the oncoming vehicle.
According to the French company, the 2007 Renault Megane Renaultsport is going to be powered by a turbocharged version of their inline-four 2.0-liter gasoline engine.
Capable of producing 225bhp @ 5500 and 300 Nm @ 3000, the power plant will take only 6.3 seconds to propel the car from zero to 100 km/h, which makes it almost as fast as the Porsche Cayman sports coupe (of course, it doesn’t mean that the French car will handle as good as the German monster on wheels, although its front and rear suspension is said to be reworked.)
Its top speed is currently rated just shy of 240 km/h so you will not feel embarrassed driving on an Autobahn.
Mated to a manual six-speed transmission, the engine is said to achieve an impressive fuel economy of 8.8 L/100 km in a combined cycle.
The car will also feature a front-wheel drive system with its wheels wrapped in a low-profile 225/40 R18 rubber.
