It is now official, folks: prices for the 2007 Saturn Aura mid-size sedan that was first presented to the public at the 2006 New York Auto Show in April will start at $20,595.
Being in fact a badge-engineered version of the European Opel Vectra which is built on GM Epsilon platform, the new vehicle is still very important for the struggling brand.
With its impressive (for an American car) fuel economy, compact size, and affordable pricing the 2007 Saturn Aura may help GM to attract more attention of customers to one of its brands.
It must be noted however that for the price of less than $21,000 you can order only the most basic Aura XE trim that will be equipped with 3.5-liter V6 VVT engine
Mated to a standard four-speed automatic gearbox, the powerplant is capable to produce 224 hp and 220 feet-pounds of torque.
The list of standard equipment for this trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, and a CD stereo system with an AUX in that will allow you to plug your iPod as an auxiliary source but (as far as I understand) you will still not be able to control the portable media player neither from the steering wheel, nor from the main head unit.
On the North American market, the new car will have to compete against the Pontiac G6, cheap and reliable 2006 Hyundai Sonata, and the 2007 Buick LaCrosse.
It seems that there won’t be too reach a choice since the new Saturn Aura will be introduced only in two trims — the basic XE and more feature rich XR, with the latter coming with 3.6-liter DOHC V6 VVT engine.
Producing 252 horsepower and 251 lb.-ft., the engine will be paired with GM’s new six-speed automatic transmission. The XR will set you back for at least $24,595.
Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, traction control system, 17-inch wheels, six airbags and some other equipment come in a standard package.
