European customers that happen to own one of the Jeep Commander 3.0 CRD crossovers can now order the SD6 tuning kit from Startech to boost the SUV’s power output and give the vehicle more distinctive appearance.
The Startech SD6 tuning kit gives the standard 218 hp V6 turbodiesel engine additional 44 horsepower and boosts its torque from generous 376 to mighty 428 lb-ft (580 Nm), which is available between 1,600 and 2,600 rpm.
In its press release Startech doesn’t go to deep into details, but it seems that the power gain comes courtesy of the new ECU (engine control unit) that changes the way the diesel fuel is injected into the six cylinders.
Although the car will certainly become less green, you will at least get more bang for your bucks.
Additional power makes the SUV run a little faster, decreasing its 0-60-mph acceleration time from 9.0 to 8.5 seconds and increasing its top speed from 119 to 124 mph.
However, it must be noted that the suspension and brakes remain the same, so you will have to use the extra power wisely, not overdoing it while approaching an especially sharp turn.
The aero kit consists of a new front apron and grille, new rocker panels with trendy integrated LEDs, chrome rear view mirror moldings and a new rear apron that features a steel element.
So far, the kit is approved for sale in mainland Europe and at this time the German-based tuner is working to make it legal in the United Kingdom as well.
The tuning package is priced at just below €2000 and includes the parts and job. The kit is expensive, sure, but, compared to other aftermarket solutions, it won’t void your warranty.
Although the overall looks of the kit is, err, debatable, the tuned Jeep Commander looks more outstanding, indeed. Like you’ve imported it right from India, you know.
