Mercedes-Benz and its old partner McLaren, a British Formula One team, which is based in Woking, Surrey, United Kingdom and uses Merc’s engines in their race cars, have reportedly created a drop-top version of their gorgeous Mercedes SLR supercar. Sporting the same V8 powerplant, the car will probably also offer you the same level of performance, but will come in a much sexier body of a cabriolet.
According to some sources, the new uber-convertible may be officially unveiled at the beginning of next year of 2007. Perhaps, in Geneva.
The new SLR drop-top will be based on the well-known 1999 Vision SLR concept car and will be motivated by the same V8 engine installed on the current SLR coupe, featuring 626 hp of maximum power achieved at 6500 rpm and impressive 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of peak torque available at 3250 through 5000 rpm.
Body of the 2007 SLR convertible will be built using the same composite materials, so do expect the same rigidity and strength as well as the same mind-numbing performance.
Oh, and about the price. If price of current SLR coupe is of any indication, the new car will cost you not less than $660,000, so you’d better start saving money right now.
