The 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class coupe and convertible models that were originally designed to compete against the Jaguar XK-Series, BMW 3-Series coupes and Lexus SC 430, have finally received an upgrade to their compact, but powerful 2.0-liter engine. Although the vehicle’s fuel economy rating remained roughly the same, the upgraded powerplant provides it with even more power slashing the 0-100 km/h acceleration time, while increasing its top speed.

The new inline-four-banger from Mercedes produces a maximum of 184 hp and delivers a peak torque of 184 lb-ft (250 Nm), which is respectively 21 hp and 10 Nm more than the previous motor could have delivered.

No wonder that the Mercedes Benz CLK200 Coupe now features a top speed increased to 147 mph and better acceleration, taking 8.8 seconds to jump from zero to 62 mph, which is 0.5 seconds better than with the older engine.

Although being more powerful, the new engine features the same mileage and CO2 emission levels. Pricing also remains the same. At least, in the U.K, starting from ВЈ29,910 for the Coupe and £33,510 for the Cabriolet.
