The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer will be sold in three trim lines with Lancer DE –the cheapest model in the line– starting at price of just $13,990.

For the money, you’ll get a CVT (no, they don’t seem to offer a stick this time,) a set of rather dull-looking 16-inch wheels, driver’s knee airbag, power windows and side view mirrors, immobilizer, auto-off headlamps, audio system with mp3 playback and four speakers.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer DE

Too bad, that you would have to pay additional $1,100 to equip your Lancer with air conditioning, ABS and power door locks.

Like its more expensive siblings, the Lancer DE is powered by an all-aluminum MIVEC four-banger mated to a five-speed manual and producing from 143 hp (P-ZEV) to 152 hp (Federal emissions).

This one comes with five-spoke 16-inch alloys, color-keyed door handles and mirrors and a chrome grille surround. Conditioner, split folding rear seats, center console box with armrest, map lamps, floor mats, power locks and alarm system also come as standard equipment.

For additional $1,500 you’ll get a Sun & Sound Package that combines a power glass sunroof with sunshade with the 650-watt Rockford-Fosgate Premium Audio system with nine speakers including subwoofer, six CD in-dash head unit and SIRIUS Satellite Radio with six month pre-paid subscription.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS

The top of the range Lancer GTS also includes such standard features as 10-inspoke alloy 18-inchers, front and side air dams, fog lights, a rear spoiler and a chrome tailpipe tip.

The trim offers “sport-tuned” suspension, 215/45R18 tires larger brakes matching those of Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, Sportronic magnesium steering wheel mounted shift paddles , automatic climate control, sport bucket front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth hands-free, and 6-speaker audio.

The GTS also has an optional $2,000 Navigation and Technology Package, offering a seven-inch touch screen and HDD with digital music server, and Mitsubishi’s FAST key entry system, which means you’ll never be quite sure whether your darling is locked or not.
