Caterham X330 Concept

The supercharged Caterham X330 Concept model features such a high power-to-weight ratio it makes both Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is a mid-engined grand touring supercar and the legendary McLaren F1 look like a pair of pony cars.

The Caterham X330 Concept is almost exactly the same CSR Superlight we know, but with its 2.2-liter Ford Duratec engine supercharged.

Caterham X330 Concept: faster than Veyron?

Courtesy of a Rotrex C30-94 supercharger unit, the engine’s maximum power output has been increased from nice 260 bhp to pretty much impressive (for the feather-light car) 330 bhp and 221 lb-ft of torque.

Which leads as smoothly to the Caterham’s claim: weighing a little bit more than 550 kg, the Caterham X330 Concept features mind-blowing 600 bhp per ton power-to-weight ratio, while the above mentioned Veyron and McLaren F1 sport no more than 521 and 559 bhp per ton respectively.

Caterham stays mum whether the X330 will ever be put on the production line but it will surely use it as a test pet to research into bioethanol fuel and other innovative stuff.
