Now it looks more like a Mazda RX-8 sports coupe, rather than another boring mid-size sedan from Japan. And it is just so, since on the European market the new 6-series will have to compete against such established players as the new Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

Technical details are yet to be unveiled but Mazda promises that the 2008 Mazda6 will be more environmentally friendly and feature better safety performance.

Knowing that the car shares its CD3-2 platform with the new Ford Mondeo and the upcoming Opel Vectra also to be presented in September, expect at least a pair of engines – a 250 hp 3.5-liter V6 installed into the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover SUVs, and a 180 hp 2.5-liter four-pot.

A model with a hybrid powertrain is also possible, as well as a high-powered Mazdaspeed6 sports sedan, which will presumably be available in the year 2009.

The cars are also expected to be presented in a lots of body styles, including he sedan, wagon, and hatchback.
