The German brand has just unveiled its U.K. pricing for the upcoming 2008 BMW 1-Series Coupe compact performance car with a lot of sports ambitions, which is crossing the Canal in just two months, arriving to dealerships by November, 2007.

While many “sporty” vehicles with low-displacement diesel engines usually fail to make an impression on a motorist in search of a compact driving machine, this new 2008 BMW 1-Series will probably make your heart race at an alarming rate even if you opt for the entry-level BMW 120d ES Coupe.

Although a lot of comfort features are unavailable and even such basics as power seats and power folding mirrors are extremely pricey, the 0-60 mph time of just 7.6 seconds, top speed of 142 mph (230 km/h) and an average fuel efficiency of 61 mpg (less than 4 l/100 km!) makes this vehicle a very nice choice if you are looking for a premium car on a very tight budget.

According to the company, the cheapest 175bhp diesel-powered BMW 120d ES Coupe will start at £21,585, which is £940 and £1,170 more than the three-door and five-door 120d ES respectively will cost.

BMW 120d SE will sell at £23,025 and the souped-up 120d M-Sport will start at ВЈ24,705

Mid-range 201 bhp 128i model will be available in two trims. And the 128i SE version will sell at £24,855 and the M-Sport will go from £26,290.

The top of the line turbocharged six-cylinder BMW 135i M-Sport will set you back at £29,745.

These tiny cutes are supposed to compete against the new Audi A3/S3 family of hot hatches, the Infiniti G37 Coupe, Subaru Impreza WRX and, perhaps, the new Acura TSX, which is bigger and less powerful but is also cheaper and returns better mileage, which is quite important these days when oil prices keep going North like there is no tomorrow.
