With a production number limited to meager 1000 units this year and only 700 cars in 2009, the Shelby tuning specialist will have no problem selling its 40th anniversary Ford GT500KR stunner, even if the sports cars will still be offered at a whopping recommended street price of $79,995.
Ford Shelby GT500KR, which is based on the new GT500, will have its power increased from 500 hp to 540 hp and its original torque of 480 lb-ft now peaks at 510 lb-ft (691 Nm).
Although I am not really sure about its abilities when it comes to fast cornering, I can still imagine that the car, which is probably named as a nod to the legendary 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR muscle car, will be a real star of amateur drag racing.
According to the American tuning specialist, the increase in power was achieved thanks to a reprogrammed engine control unit (ECU) and a new exhaust system that allows the supercharged 5.4-liter V8 powerplant to turn premium gasoline into CO2 in a more efficient way.
Of course, the vehicle’s chassis and suspension have also been upgraded to match the new performance levels.
The vehicle will be available sometime in June, 2008.
