The German tuning specialist Hofele Design has just revealed its new appearance kit that suits both older and the face-lifted version of the VW Touareg crossover SUV ranging from 2002 to 2009 model years. While the body kit doesn’t look particularly inspiring (I mean, the Touareg is a truck that was deliberately made to appear dull, putting all this plastic bling on it is like decorating a royal piano with polyurethane fretwork), there is still something about it that just makes me want to reconsider.
The kit consists of a new front bumper with two pairs of Brabus-style fog lights and an aluminum skid plate, new rear apron with trapezoidal tailpipe tips, new sides skirts that reduce the vehicle’s ground clearance even further, but somehow connect things visually, roof spoiler and removable under ride protection.
There is also a flashy ‘Power Dome’ hood scoop although the engine remains untouched. Possibly, just a piece of plastic attached to the hood with some 3M tape. Go figure.
The kit may be complemented with new 22-inch Reverso 22 wheels with 295/30 R22 tires and either sport springs or ETS module for the Touareg’s air suspension lowering the SUV by 40 millimeters. Although you can’t cheat the laws of nature and will not turn a 2.5-ton SUV into a featherlight Porsche Boxster, the lowered suspension will still make it a tad safer if you plan to drive the car on windy Italian or California roads.
Well, with the kit installed your SUV will gain some extra pounds, but at least it will look much more interesting than the standard model, especially if you have a wealthy dad and your reference group is still under age of 20.
