It was finally confirmed that not only the coupe, but also the cabriolet version of the tiny 2008 BMW 1-Series sport car may be equipped with a new body kit that was recently presented by the German tuning specialist Hartge.
Being as ugly as it is, the 1-Series really needs some extra plastic parts to make it look just a trifle more presentable, but if you are on the market for this very purpose the kit from Hartge is definitely not for you. With all the extra parts installed, the BMW’s entry-level sports coupe looks even less appealing than the stock version.
The kit consists of a new front lip spoiler, new side skirts that are supposed to channel more air to the rear brakes, as well as a boot lid lip spoiler which is attached to the convertible’s trunk with a strip of 3M adhesive tape, and a roof spoiler for the E82 coupe model.
A lower rear bumper diffuser only available for the 135i with M Aerodynamic package and requires the Hartge stainless steel rear silencer with right and left dual round tail pipes. I am not sure whether the part is truly functional or not, but it surely does make the car look even more revolting. Well, perhaps that was the idea.
It is reported that Hartge will supply the kit painted in metallic anthracite and metallic silver colors, but you will have to either install the parts yourself or take it to the nearest custom shop.
