VW Touareg North Sails design study: Captain on the deck!

The new, maritime-inspired 2008 VW Touareg North Sails design study is a child of love between the VW itself and North Sails Group, that proclaims itself the world’s largest sail-maker.

So it is no wonder that the resulting product looks like a land yacht rolling on 19-inch wheels.

As I have already noted. the concept crossover SUV comes equipped with exclusive 19-inch rims and its front and rear fog-lights as well as built in side mirrors turn signal repeaters feature blue colored lenses and reflectors.

Inside the car, there are even more elements drawn directly from a yacht near you.

Boring velour floor mats are changed to an impressive set of natural teak wood flooring panels (damn, do I want these into my Hyundai Santa Fe!) outlined with LED lighting strips (no, I don’t want these); white Nappa leather is stitched in aquamarine zigzag pattern; and the stainless steel entry strips carry the North Sail logo.

On the center console one will also find a set of binoculars and a compass.

Hopefully, there is also a sextant somewhere, too.

I think it would be a really good idea to actually start selling a more down to earth version of the concept car.

I mean, having to compete against such serious luxury SUVs like, say, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz ML-Class or the glorious Range Rover, the VW Touareg certainly lacks a truly top-notch trim that leaves a strong impression of luxury.

And this one looks like a real killer to me.
