With its body 411cm long, 179cm wide and 161cm tall, the upcoming 2009 Kia Soul mini MPV will be 3cm longer, 6cm wider and just 1cm lower than the yet to go on sale 2009 Citroen Picasso C3 MPV.
What’s even more important, the new Korean vehicle also features a slightly longer wheelbase than its French competitor. Measuring 2550 mm, it is 10 millimeters longer than that of the upcoming Picasso C3. If it doesn’t sound particularly impressive to you, just imagine a long, long trip from Berlin to Barcelona with your knees not jammed into the back of the driver’s chair.
The new Soul will also have to compete against the Honda Jazz and Renault Modus compact people movers movers that feature even shorter wheelbases, while not offering any serious upgrades in terms of interior quality and passengers’ comfort.
According to the Korean company, the car will be motivated by a choice of three engines. Besides the usual 2.0-liter and a 1.6-liter inline-four petrol powerplants, there is also a relatively powerful 1.6-liter turbo-diesel with VGT that deliver’s smooth performance with almost no turbo-lag.
Kia plans to start selling the Soul (ouch!) in the USA in February 2009 and worldwide in April 2009.
The mini MPV will be manufactured in South Korea.
