500 electric Mini EV go to California
BMW will soon ship 500 electric-powered Mini EV compact hatchbacks to California to comply with the local ZEV program.
Of those five hundreds EV compacts, 490 will be leased to select customers (OMG, they still lease those cars!) and the remaining ten will be kept in the showrooms.
Automotive News says that the cars will be partly assembled at the Mini Factory in Oxford, UK, with the internal combustion engine, the gearbox and the fuel tank omitted, and then will go to Germany where the cars will get their electric powertrain, batteries and such.
Then the electric Mini that will be distinguished from the rest of the crowd with their silver body paint and yellow roofs will be shipped to California.
Should the demand for the Mini EV will be high enough; BMW will consider a mass production of the car later this year.
