Volkswagen has finally released an extensive photo set of its Robust (or, perhaps, Taro) 1-ton concept pickup truck.

The Robust is set to be unveiled at the 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover scheduled from 25 September through 2 October 2008.

Although VW is not readily associated with this kind of workhorses, the company’s designers have managed to make the muscular concept truck a true Volkswagen. I.e. dull and uninspiring as most of their models, duh.

The Pickup Concept will be presented as a SAR vehicle and will feature a standard crew-cab (VW historically calls it a Doublecab) body with a five-foot cargo bed and a two-piece tailgate.

The truck’s interior is simplified to the possible minimum, although the luxury version of the car (if ever produced) will possibly resemble that of the next-generation VW Touareg.

VW plans to put the pickup on the assembly line in the fall of 2009 at its production facility in Argentina.

It will be sold in South American, South African and European markets.
