General Motors is about to introduce to the local market another member of the growing H3 family — the top-notch 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha. Although, like Jeeps, the Hummer series was initially designed to be primarily a superb vehicle for off-road adventures, the truck is more and more often considered a luxury item and those shelling tens of thousands of dollars for the legendary badge and the signature chrome grille expect the vehicle to be on top of competition, in all meanings of the word.

The American car manufacturing juggernaut GM and a soft-top maker brand ASC of the same origin have joined their forces in order to turn an off-road-capable but still way too metrosexual Hummer H3 mid-size SUV into an open-top lion-hunter’s dream. Initially introduced couple of years ago as a concept vehicle, the compact SUV has finally been green-lighted for mass production. In the process, the vehicle dropped the rather pretentious “Cosmos” part from its badge.

General Motors announced yesterday that the new 2007 Hummer H3x mid-size SUV will be available in August at a base price of $38,065. Although, for a vehicle of this sort, the price seems a bit steep, GM tries to sweeten the deal with some extra standard equipment that you would otherwise have to buy either from third party sellers, or get from Hummer itself, which usually means that they would try to sell you a cheap chromed bull-bar at a price of the Golden Gate Bridge.
